3 S Biology Summer School

The "3S Biology" Summer School (3SBSS) is aimed at introducing PhD students and postdoctoral researchers to the paradigm shift which is radically transforming the ways in which biological investigation is conducted, from a reductionistic view focusing on single genes or cell pathways to a global measurement of the levels and state of activities of dozens of the thousands of macromolecules and small molecules present in a living cell.

The three key perspectives from which this revolution is addressed  are those of  the "three S" of Systems Biology, Synthetic Biology and Semantic Biology, i.e., how you globally measure and analyze biological systems, how you partially or globally engineer them, and how you extract by the previous two activities meaningful information about their behaviour and their derangement in disease. The school is addressed to people with both a biology/medicine and an engineering/information technology or mathematics/physics background, and is designed in such a way to provide a constant help in integrating these domains of scientific knowledge.

3SBSS is a meeting point created by a collaboration between the Centre for Integrative Biology (CIBIO) of the University of Trento and the Autonomous Province of Trento, in which young life science investigators will have the opportunity of an intense week of discussions and hands-on activities with recognized scientific leaders, in the charming scenario of the Italian Alps. The final aim of 3SBSS and of the related activities of "3S Biology" is to establish a living network of researchers active in this new exciting science.

The registration fee is € 300. The fee includes meals and lodging in facilities provided by the University of Trento. Travel to Trento will be at participants own expense.
