3 S Biology Summer School

Trento, 18-22 August, 2008

Presentation

The “3S Biology” Summer School ( 3SBSS ) aims at introducing to the transformation under way in biological investigation, from a focus on single genes or cell pathways to global measurements of the thousands of molecules present in living cells.

The three keys perspectives from which this revolution is addressed are those of the “three S” of Systems Biology, Synthetic Biology and Semantic Biology. Systems biology technologies yield large amounts of data that demand suitable computationally intensive statistical and modeling methods. Semantic biology deals with methods aimed at the conceptualization of the behavior of whole biological systems under different conditions. Synthetic biology exploits standardization, decoupling and abstraction to rationally design new genetic devices.

3SBSS is addressed to PhD students and postdocs with a biology/medicine or engineering/information technology or mathematics/physics background that are interested in fruitful contamination of such domains.

The Centre for Integrative Biology and the University of Trento open up the opportunity for young life science researchers to share an intense week of discussions and hands-on activities with recognized scientific investigators, in the charming scenario of the Italian Alps. The main aim of 3SBSS and related “3S Biology” is to establish a network of researchers active in dialoguing and sharing expertise in these new frontiers of biological research.
